COVID-19 timelines in the United States

In the images below (click on them to enlarge them) states are ordered from bottom to top based on the date of the (first) largest number recorded so-far in the time series of daily cases or deaths. States at the top are still dealing with a surge, or have dealt with it more recently.

Going over these charts allows one to assess the dynamics of the pandemic in the United States, including which states appear to be past the worst, and which states still have to face it. Notice that there is not necessarily a unique maximum; both cases and deaths can spike more than once.

Data from The New York Times, based on reports from state and local health agencies. The New York Times provides a U.S. tracking page of its own.
